Historical Drama (1947-1953)
Being the President of the United States is probably
one of the most arduous and cumbersome tasks in the Union.
Can you imagine being a different President during every
term in the United States history?! Well, Edward Arnold
sure took pleasure in filling those shoes.
Mr. President was a show that told stories about
the Commanders-in-chief of the Union and about their untold
tales about everyday life while in residency in the White
House. The identity was never revealed during the course
of the show, in order to challenge the audience to guess
his identity, which was divulged at the conclusion of
the show. The show gave such a general background of the
President and the timeframe, that it even challenged American
History students. During his "tenure" as president,
Arnold gained the admiration of President Harry Truman,
himself! Arnold was a frequent visitor and weekend resident
at the White House that President Truman would refer to
Arnold as"Mr. President."
The series was created by Robert Jennings. Each week the president was played by Edward Arnold and included the supported voice talents of Bea Benaderet, Gil Stratton, Hans Conried, Lurene Tuttle, and Herb Butterfield.
