Before They Were Presidential Nominees

Every four years, the United States holds a Presidential Election to elect a President and a Vice President to lead the nation.  For the most part, Americans like to elect leaders with a proven record for which they can run on.

Nineteen-Sixty really got the practice of debates between major candidates to what they are today, but the first debate was in 1948 between Thomas E. Dewey and Harold Stasson.  Primary rivals; Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver would hold a presidential primary debate in 1956.

When picking a nominee, we should know where these candidates stood in offices prior to seeking the presidency or the vice presidency.  One thing is for sure, what someone felt years before may not be what they felt by the time of their respective nomination, but their beliefs may have very much stayed consistent.  There are some who have long careers in government like Bob Dole and Joe Biden and short careers in government like Donald Trump.  After hearing this collection, you will be proud of the choice the people made in some elections and in others, you will think to yourself what was going on in the people’s mind when they elected them as President and Vice President.
