Metropolitan Opera Auditions gave many future opera stars their start in radio. The show was especially exciting because it gave listeners a chance to hear up and coming performers. As well, it gave radio audiences a palatable short sample of operas. Performers on the show competed for a contract with the Met. Two finalists won $1,000 cash and contracts. Runners-up, as well, were often offered contracts due to their extreme talent.
