Everything for the Boys

Listening to "Everything for the Boys" gives one a real sense of what it was like for people who lived through World War II, especially for those at home, and to some extent for those serving overseas. Each program included a short play (often a condensation of a famous movie), nearly all of which I found enjoyable. After the play, the hose (Ronald Colman) and guest star(s) would attempt to converse via short wave with two service members stationed abroad. A couple of times - the short wave connection failed - it was after all live radio. Some of the conversations were touching, especially as the hosts might give the servicemen and women an update on family news, or even enable them to talk with a loved one at home. Two highlights were Ronald Colman's recitation of the poem "High Flight" and, especially, when, at a soldier's request, Ingrid Bergman sang "As Time Goes By" (from her film Casablanca), a truly unforgettable moment. Anyone interested in WWII, or who enjoys the films of that era, will enjoy listening to this program.

I love the old time radio programs. Clever scripts and the timing of dialogue by those actors was incredible. The best sleep tonic too
