In 1976 NBC turned 50 years old. To celebrate, NBC produced a radio show with highlights from those 50 years. Though NBC started broadcasting in 1926, broadcasting in general started with the first nation-wide broadcast, the sinking of the Titanic.
A radio operator at the top of Wanamaker's Department Store in New York City broadcast the news for 72 hours with President Taft shutting down all other radio stations in the country so they could not interfere with news.
The show starts at the party for the first NBC broadcast in November 1926 at the Waldorf Astoria and covers some of the most well-known radio broadcasts in NBC's history.
This birthday party covered everything from Will Rogers, Amos and Andy to the first moon walk. Hosted by Ben Grauer, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Arlene Francis and John Chancellor, the show brings back great memories for those who lived them and lots of fun for fans of Old-Time Radio.
