Lucille
Ball stars with Richard Denning in this pre-I Love
Lucy radio comedy. They are Liz and George Cooper,
"two people who live together and like it,"
from the popular novel "Mr. and Mrs. Cugat,"
by Isabel Scott Rorick. Of course, Lucille Ball plays
Liz as the oddball wife. George is the typical husband,
on the way to being thoroughly confused by Liz. There
is much interplay between the sexes, and of course, there
is the overbearing boss, Mr. Atterbury, abley played by
the great radio, TV and screen "slow burn" specialist,
Gale Gordon. He is well known to fans of old time radio
as principal Conklin on Our
Miss Brooks, a show that served as one of the
models for this one. From this, and other old time radio shows,
came the couples sitcoms on TV like "I Love Lucy,
"I Dream of Jeanie," and "Bewitched."
Of course, Easy Aces
and My Friend Irma were
other shows that featured the ditzy wife, but the ditzy
role was first personified and perfected by the wonderful
Gracie Allen, of Burns
and Allen.

comedy talent doing another show besides the one we know
so well. We can study Lucy's timing and inflection delivering
wacky lines prior to Desi Arnaz. Desi was very lucky to
be the big lug that this nutty lady attached herself to,
and so a Cuban conga player singing Babaloo got to the
"favorite husband" after all.
