Magic has a long history in entertainment from escape artists to illusionists to ventriloquists. Because of the trickery associated with magic tricks, magicians were often accused of practicing witchcraft most notably during the Inquisition. After the Enlightenment and during the 19th century, magic as a form of entertainment became en vogue.
Most magicians do not claim to have supernatural powers, but their abilities often leave the audience wondering. The mystery of magic and the magician's seemingly closeness to the supernatural of often leads to good fiction and always leads to great old time radio shows.
