OTRCAT SAMPLER #5

Aside from minor technical issues (sound not always perfect), I have enjoyed all the radio programs from the OTRCAT. They offer just about any program you want to hear. I listen to most of mine riding in the car. I'm guessing I've heard more than 50 programs.

I truly enjoy the variety format of the OTRCAT Samplers.

The particular disc I bought was interesting in that it had 3 completely different shows: Captain Starr from Space, Live From Birdland, and Second Chance. Captain Starr was similar to adventure shows of that time period such as Tom Corbett and Space Patrol. In this episode, Starr solves the mystery of a space colony's disappearing people. Live From Birdland features Count Basie and his Orchestra entertaining the audience with several tunes. Second Chance was a game show with the premise of giving people a second chance at say, a lost love, by answering questions correctly. As an added bonus, they are all from the same time period; i.e. 1953. This gives it some continuity to that time period. I liked Live From Birdland the best as it was really uptempo and made you want to get up and dance.

I love these Samplers. I have a lot of shows already, but the Samplers have quite a few that I don't normally listen to. Very cool 😎

I purchased disc 5 this time. It had a 15 minute episode of Louella Parson's gossip show about Hollywood and the stars. Then, she talked to Joan Crawford about women and movies. The other show on the disc was a 1949 episode of Our Miss Brooks. Everyone is freezing at Madison High and Connie Brooks is delegated to approach Principal Conklin for springing for money because of the cold inside the school. All in all, a most entertaining disc.

To be precise, I have been an ardent fan of such radio shows since about 1944, about the time I began to understand the shows that I was hearing from my crib.

My compliments to OTR for these free samplers. I expected a few extracts from a few shows, but these sampler CDs go on and on--they seem inexhaustible--and often offer more entertainment than the programs I paid for. Great stuff!
