When New York emerged as the top jazz house in the country after the 1920s, Count Basie and his Orchestra quickly made the bigapple, and Birdland, their home. Birdland opened its doors in 1949, inspired by the great Charlie Parker (knowyn as Bird, a shortened nickname of Yardbird), Parker was headlining the joint. Jazz greats through the years played at and frequented the popular club. Count Basie and his Orchestra recorded Live from Birdland in the 1950s, and even recorded their famous "Lullaby of Birdland there. Enjoy these fantastic rare recordings from their radio program, Live from Birdland, as well as many other old time radio shows (including GI Jive, Jubilee, One Night Stand, and Stars on Parade) featuring Count Basie and his Orchestra from the 1930s through the 1950s.
