Most notably, volunteers reported seeing an airplane which crashed into the ocean in 1942 off the Monterey Coast in California.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, an amazing 150,000 citizens volunteered to look for enemy aircraft headed for the mainland. Many of the volunteers were women and retired persons who lived along the Pacific Coast. After the war continued, the interest in the Aircraft Warning Service waned and Eyes Aloft radio show was created to reignite interest in the program.

This is a great series. The patriotism of earlier times was amazing - definitely something lost these days. Also interesting that Henry Fonda partcipated - hard to imagine many Hollywood starts doing that these days. Also interesting for the fear Japanese attack engendered - reminds me of the fear after 9/11 in more recent times. Highly recommended.
