NBC Short Story was a commercial failure lasting only one season. However, this series proves the compatibility of short stories and radio series and is highly recommended. It utilized short stories from some of the best modern writers such as Hemingway, Steinbeck, Faulkner, and many others.

The short stories proved ideal for the half hour format and often stayed true to the original. Other series such as NBC University Theater had some difficulty relating full novels with the radio format. The content of both shows remain some of the finest examples of high Old Time Radio entertainment.

Every episode used only the very best that the literary world could offer. This collection represents a majority of the known 25 episode known to be in existence. The series was created too late in the history of Old Time Radio and unfortunately competed with the new world of television.
