How to Listen to Old Time Radio in the Car

Playing Radio Shows In Car

Old time radio is great to listen to at home or on the road: Classic radio shows on MP3 CDs from OTRCAT.com are guaranteed to play in your computer, but many old time radio fans also enjoy old time radio in the car during long trips and daily commutes:

  • 1940s Car RadioMANY NEW CARS ALREADY HAVE A MP3 CD PLAYER STEREO
Check your car manual as many new car stereos (typically 2009+) are already "MP3 enabled" which should play the MP3 CDs.
  • CAR STEREO AUXILIARY INPUT
Many old time radio listeners' car stereos have "auxiliary" input in their car stereo and can connect with a dual-minijack cable from an external MP3 player (such as an MP3 CD player, iPod or Smart Phone) to play the radio shows through the car stereo. Other listeners use a cassette player adapter in their 1990's car stereos.
  • AM/FM TRANSMITTER
Other old time radio listeners use a small AM/FM transmitter from their MP3 player and tune the car stereo to the station to play the shows through their speakers.
  • MP3 CD BOOMBOX
For a low tech solution, some listeners report simply playing the shows in a MP3 boom box in the car.
  • AUDIO CDS
While MP3 CDs provide the flexibility of hours of listening on one disk, some listeners are more comfortable with standard audio cds which play in any car stereo.  The downside of standard audio cds is that they can only hold about one hour of old time radio shows compared to up to 50+ hours on a single MP3 CD.
  • BLUETOOTH & FLASH DRIVE
As cars evolve, fewer new car stereos include a MP3 CD or CD player.  Many listeners simply download or stream the shows to their phone and connect to their car stereo via bluetooth or copy the shows for playback from an USB thumb drive.

OTRCAT features an extensive library of old time radio MP3 CDs or standard audio CDs which can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home, garden, exercising, on the go and in the car!

My wife and I love listening to the shows in our car, and sometimes in the hot tub.

A really well organized web site. Very easy to use. Clearly put together.

Well, since the other items in the order were for conventional radio, I am surprised that I could have ordered mp3 format. I want these for trips in my car. I will place another order later.

Brian

I have bought many MP3s from you in the past and both my wife and I have enjoyed listening to them in our CD player.. Neither of the cars we now own, however, have these players. We would now like to download these OTR shows to a flash drive that can be played through our car radio/USB port. Please furnish the cost and memory required for each of these shows: 1) Gunsmoke 2) Johnny Dollar 3) Frontier Gentleman 4) Dr. Kildare 5)Ft. Laramie 6) The Six Gun Thank You.
