Every month has a 13th day, but when that day falls on a Friday, a little trepidation is understandable.
This phenomenon is explored in Origins Of Superstitions, a extremely entertaining "15 minute filler" program that comes to us from the Transco transcription service. In each episode, a particular superstition is examined, first with an example of its modern day manifestation and followed by a dramatized story of how the belief came into being. By the end of the broadcast, the superstition will have been debunked, but the characters almost always find a good reason to continue believing. This episode dramatized the events which lead up to the crucifixion of the Christ, which occurred on Friday the thirteenth.
On The Witch's Tale, it is a year after a London Socialite held a "Superstition Party", and one of her guests invites her husband and herself to his country estate to view the bones of his evil ancestor. The ancestor was a wizard who was able to enslave maidens if he could collect thirteen drops, "the devil's number."
The Red Skelton Show, Red and the gang explore people with superstitions after finding Harriet Nelson wants a raise. Right now she is making $13 a week...
Our Miss Brooks, Connie Brooks, doesn't believe in the Friday the Thirteenth superstition. She doesn't need a special day to have bad luck! This particular Friday, the boys from the Yearbook committee need a snapshot and the only one she has is from the beach when she wore the special French swimsuit. How could that cause any trouble?
Bob and Ray find that everyone in their entourage is plagued by unfortunate occurrences on Friday, November 13th, 1959.
On April 13, 1962, again a Friday, Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney seem prepared for anything with Bing's horse shoe pin and Rosemary's four-leaf clover brooch.
Get your lucky socks on and keep those open umbrellas outside, this collection includes the best Friday the 13th old time radio shows.
