Movie Star, Ray Milland, starred in Meet Mr. McNutley on the radio and, concurrently, on television. In the General Electric show, Milland played Professor Ray McNutley and Phyllis Avery played his wife, Peggy.
Professor McNutley was the English Department head at Lynnhaven College for Women. In the beginning, the professor was written as the stereotypical absent-minded professor though that angle was discarded after the first few episodes. McNutley was a professor with a heart for both his students and his co-workers.
The show was one of a very few that aired on the radio and on television at the same time. Other shows that aired at the same time include Our Miss Brooks, The Halls of Ivy, Dragnet, Life of Riley and several others. After the first season, the radio show was discontinued and the name changed to The Ray Milland Show. The show was on for only one more year.
Milland, an oscar-winning actor, had a long career in television as well as in the movies though he concentrated more on directing for both mediums beginning in the 1950s. His began acting in 1929 and continued on until 1985.
