“It's been quite a ride. I loved every minute of it.”
In film, Charlton Heston is the chiseled jaw, no-nonsense, hyper-masculine, iconic hero. Heston filled the role of leading men including larger than life epic films, like the Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, and El Cid. His tough guy persona translated well into Science Fiction and apocalyptic thrillers like Omega Man, Planet of the Apes, Airport, and Earthquake. A big enthusiast of Shakespeare, he filled the role of Mark Antony in multiple versions of the play Julius Caesar. His characters have made some of the most memorable lines in cinema history:
"Soylent Green is people!"
"Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"
Both on and off the screen Charlton Heston filled leadership roles. Though he is best known as the president of the NRA [National Rifle Association] (1998-2003), he was also elected president of the Screen Actors Guild six times (1966-1971), and was a Civil Rights supporter and part-time activist in the 1950s and 1960s.
This collection includes the rare recordings with Charlton Heston including reprising his role as Harry Steele "Secret of the Incas" on Lux Radio Theater and as Christopher Leiningen in Hollywood Radio Theater's version of "The Naked Jungle."
