Archie Andrews

Archie Andrews

80 Years Ago today in Radio History: Archie Andrews debuted on the radio today in 1943. The Riverdale Gang moves from comic books to the Blue Network on "The Adventures of Archie Andrews": On this day in 1943, Archie, Jughead, and the rest of the Riverdale gang made the move beyond Pep comics to the Blue Network. The Archie Andrews program put greater focus on life in the Andrews' household and less on the intriguing triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica. Riverdale's favorite redhead stepped from creator Bob Montana's comic strip to the radio waves on May 31, 1943, in The Adventures of Archie Andrews. The eternal teenager has been through several formats and even genres in various mediums, in the radio version we hear more of Archie getting in and out of scrapes with his pal, the enigmatic Jughead, than we do of the love triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica.
