Originally titled Portia Blake Faces Life, the program was originally broadcast in syndication starting Apr 1, 1940. It aired over part of the NBC network, including WNAC-Boston, WLS-Chicago, KRLD-Dallas, KGW-Portland, and KFI-Los Angeles. On Oct 7, 1940 the show was picked up by the CBS network, and the title changed to Portia Faces Life. The show would bounce back and forth between CBS and NBC several times, with Post Cereals remaining as sponsor through its 13 years on radio. The show was briefly brought to television for the 1954-55 season. Mona Kent wrote each episode.
Portia Blake was a widowed attorney raising her ten year old son while fighting crime and corruption in the small town of Parkersburg. Portia eventually falls in love and marries crusading journalist Walter Manning, who is trying to expose the criminal element that murdered Portia's husband, Richard. But who is this man in the clinic in New York, listed as a Sergeant flown in from Europe for a "check-up"? Could it be Richard who is coming home? And what about the Doctor who is treating Richard, but has fallen in love with Portia? All this and more when you tune in tomorrow to: Portia Faces Life.
