"Tops in Sports Presented by the US Airforce over the AFRTS Network"
Hosted by retired NFL star Kyle Rote, these five minute programs feature interviews with some of the great figures in sports of the time.
Featured is an interview with Tommy Tresh, 1962 Rookie of the Year with the NY Yankees. Rote takes time to discuss Tresh's game-winning catch and home-run in game 5 of the 1962 World Series. Included in the series are interviews with NBA Pioneer and Philadelphia Warriors coach Eddie Gottlieb; San Francisco Giant great Willie Mays; long time ball player Richie Ashburn who represented the expansion New York Mets in the 1962 All-Star Game; American League Manager of the Year, 1962, Bill Rigney of the Los Angeles Angels; and lifetime NY Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford.
Being a production of the US Airforce and the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, the Tops in Sports programs were intended as morale building for Servicemen around the world. They are a real treat for sports fans and history buffs today.
