Romantic Drama (1950)
A summer stand in for Fibber McGee and Molly, Charles Boyer plays Michel the French womanizing, lying cheat. Continuing his character in the same light as his glamour filled 1930s and 40s film career, Charles Boyer is a natural in his light-hearted role. Michel bops around town, eventually landing in a café where he meets up with his friend Bart Conway the writer. Always broke, Michel tells Bart tall tales of his life in exchange for $200. Bart then publishes these fantastic stories in trashy American magazines. A typical story goes something like this: Impersonating an art connoisseur, Michel’s cover is blown. Pretending to be a police officer, he backs out of the situation untouched and moves on to his next rogue. Each week, we hear a teaser of what is to come. But alas, we must wait until the next episode, “Ah, but that is another story – and another $200.”
