Described by The Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio as a country music show with corn pone humor, Plantation House Party was on the air from 1938 until 1942.
The show was hosted by Whitey Ford as the Duke of Paducah with Louise Massey and the Westerners providing the music.
In addition to his hosting duties, Ford was a writer and comedian on the show. Other groups featured on the show Red Foley, Homer and Jethro and Tom, Dick and Harry.
The show didn''t just feature country music. The music may have a bit of a country twist with electric guitars but it had more of a big band feel as well with xylophones, rich harmonies and some brass.
Originally the show was broadcast from Cincinnati but later moved to Chicago. The show started on the Mutual network later moving to NBC Blue and, eventually, to NBC Red.
