  Nicknamed the "The Irish Nightingale", Morton Downey's first gig was singing in a Greenwich Village movie house. He gained a larger audience after performing with Paul Whiteman's Orchestra aboard the transatlantic passenger liner SS Leviathan (originally a German ship named Vaterland seized by the Americans in WWI).
As early as 1930, Morton Downey began making national radio broadcasts in his own popular nightclub, The Delmonico. In 1932, Morton Downey was so popular voted Radio Singer of the Year.
 Morton Downey recorded for Edison, Victor Brunswick, Columbia and many more records labels. An accomplished songwriter, Downey composed and wrote many popular songs including "California Skies", "All I Need is Someone Like You", "Sweeten Up Your Smile", and "Now You're in My Arms." His son Morton Downey Jr. also entered show business and had a career as a sensationalist talk television show host.
This collection includes many of Morton Downey's radio appearances including "Sonbs By Morton Downey." Please note that some of the rare recordings in this collection may be of inferior sound quality.
