College Quiz Bowl was the academic quiz show with the brightest brains circa 1950. Major universities like Notre Dame, Syracuse, Georgetown, Cornell, Columbia, and more including the all women's collegeMt Holyoke "maidens" compete in the College Quiz Bowl old time radio show.
The teams consist of 4 persons representing their university with one serving as team captain. The winning teams received $500 grants for their school. Each team competed by remote broadcast at their respective school in front of cheering classmates. During the break, each college gave a brief description for their respective universities.
University of Minnesota was the most successful school appearing in 23 of the quiz bowls. College Quiz Bowl aired on radio between the years 1953-1955, later moving to television. Better Homes and Gardens Magazine sponsored the show.
