CBS World News Today (also called CBS World News Roundup) has long been requested by old time radio collectors and is finally available. The show begins each week with a recap of the world news events and then delves into further detail. It was one of the first news shows that sent correspondents around the world to report back to New York. The correspondents gave American eyewitness accounts some of the most dramatic events in history.
Edward R. Murrow and William L. Shirer served as news correspondent at the shows inception with Murrow in London and Shirer in Berlin (who witnesses the fall of Austria to Germany). John Charles Daly served as news anchor of the show and worked as a news correspondent around the world. John Charles Daly later served as host of the popular show What's my Line? and ABC World News.
CBS World News Today covered WWII battles on the many theaters of the war including Europe, the Pacific, and Africa. The series also includes a Special Broadcast by Eleanor Roosevelt praising the bravery of the Merchant Marines. The last show in this collection covers the Japanese surrender onboard the U.S. Battleship Missouri on September 2, 1945 known as V-J Day.
CBS World News Today is truly a stunning time capsule into the specific events of WWII.
