Grantland RiceThe Sportsmen's Club was a Saturday morning sports drama on NBC between the end of 1943 and spring 1945. the show featured "the Dean of American Sportswriters", Grantland Rice.

The stories are taken from "Granny" Rice's 1932 book, The Omnibus of Sport. The book is a collection of Rice's favorite stories from his more than thirty years as a sports writer. Much to the writer's credit, the stories are not all his own. They are from his own writing as well as the work of other writer's work in popular magazines, even literary classics like the Iliad and Odyssey!

On The Sportsmen's Club, the stories are formatted as radio plays, filled with the heartwarming inspiration of sport. They are stories of race horses that only show the heart of a champ for trainers they love, fighters who refuse to take a dive, and All-American football heroes who find that a mother's love is more valuable than the game.

The show frames the stories in a Saturday morning visit to the Club, where we find a pair of members looking at old trophies and arguing over some sports esoterica. They turn to Rice to resolve the disagreement, which he avoids by presenting this week's story.
