1931 - (Depression era radio)
Silas Q. Perkins and Elmer Peabody, of sleepy rural Punkinville, are “the hayseed Sherlocks” in this Depression-era comedy detective series. Their theme song is, appropriately, “The Farmer in the Dell.” The duo solve multiple mysteries after receiving their mail-order degree from “The Snoop and Sneak Detective School.”

The correspondence school detectives begin a new life of adventure in their sleepy town after 40 years of whittling in front of the town general store and post office. They have repeated misadventures, such as being locked in a bank vault with a corpse and discovering a bank thief disguised in black face as a pullman porter. They also have their fair share of snake bites, something strange hitting Si in the face and taking his flashlight, handcar railroad races and phonograph disappearances.
