Then there's Martin Kane, the determined pipe-smoking gumshoe who needed only a mere three weeks in radio before becoming a popular television show. Advertising for US Tobacco, Martin often dropped by Happy McMann's Tobacco Shop in order to give the sponsor a plug. Or if you have a passion for terror, stay tuned for Max Haines, an extremely rare mystery show with only one existing program. As for comedy, That's My Pop is tops as a rare comedic replacement for The Kate Smith Show during the summer of 1945. Bob Hope also stops by on The Maxwell House Showboat. And if music and dancing is your bag, you won't want to miss Sun Up Serenade, a 1940s Western music show promoting Blue Seal Flour in the spirit of Pat O'Daniel and Light Crust Doughboys. Or swing the night away with Tommy Dorsey and The Make Believe Ballroom. When you've left the ballroom, stop on by the Edens Shampoo College Sorority Dance from 1933 and move that shoe with Freddie Martin. There are several novelty music programs in this collection as well, such as the Hartz Radio Canaries, a show with a studio filled with the chorus of twittering canaries along with a pop-tune-playing organ and the occasional dog.
