The Adventures of Paul Temple

Paul Temple is known worldwide to mystery fans as the literary, intelligent British amateur detective created by writer Francis Durbridge. Temple is a novelist and playwright, and has an analytical mindset perfectly suited to the world of crime detection. His lovely wife with the unusual appellation Steve, is always ready and willing to help with his investigations. Sir Graham Forbes of Scotland Yard is Temple's crime-solving associate and mentor, although usually it is Temple who creates a brilliant association of clues that leads the solving of the case.

Interestingly, the mystery detective Paul Temple was developed as a radio serial in 1938 by Durbridge, and the first of the books were novelizations of the radio scripts. As his popularity grew, several of the subsequent novels were credited to Paul Temple (himself,) but were the work of the writing team of Durbridge and Douglas Rutherford. Through the years, Temple was involved in numerous cases, and was well-received in films and television as well, and appeared in a daily comic strip that ran from the early 1950's through the early '70's. Through the decades after the war, Temple and Steve maintained their hold on the hearts and minds of the British mystery-loving public via their radio cases.
