"Have
you invested in United States Savings Bonds this week?" Produced
by the U.S. Treasury Department in the 1940s and 1950s as a public
service program, Guest Star features a different often top-name
"guest star" (singer, actor, comedian) each week to promote the
sales of savings bonds. Tallulah Bankhead, Nat King Cole, Peggy
Lee, Johnny Desmond, Lionel Barrymore, Gene
Autry, and Red Buttons are but a few of the special performances. Guest Star offers a slew of musical numbers, short skits and hilarious
jokes throughout.
